At Blizzcon 2019, Blizzard made the big announcement, that Diablo 4 is in development. They showed an amazing cinematic trailer which was over 9 minutes long (very unusual for a cinematic). What about the Diablo 4 release date? Well, the game director said "not even Blizzard soon", so we all know what that means. The playable demo from Blizzcon 2019 looked very good, also the gameplay trailer looked promising with those cutscenes but at the same time, the community deduced that Blizzard still have tons of work until a release date. I don't think they are more than 20-30% done with the content development, not to mention the time it takes to polish a game like Diablo 4.
The to the current situation regarding Blizzard games (Diablo Immortal issue, Warcraft 3 reforged issue), I don't think Blizzard can risk to release Diablo 4, until they know 100% the game will be as good as Diablo 2. So, when will Diablo 4 come out? Well, from my point of view, Diablo 4 release date, it will be around Spring 2023. Let me tell you why.
Diablo 3 LOD, was released in 2001. Diablo 3 was announced in 2008 (7 years later) and then it was released in 2012 (4 years after announcement). So total 11 years since Diablo 2 LOD.
Diablo 4 was announced in 2019, this is exactly 7 years after Diablo 3 was released. Put another 4 years (the time D3 was in development since announcement) and it will give you 2023 (11 years after Diablo 3). Do you agree with my estimation regarding Diablo 4 release date?
I think 2020 and 2021 will be development years for Diablo 4 (content creation, cinematics, lots of cutscenes). Then 2022 will be for polishing the game and tuning the systems. Early 2023 will be for beta testing and game release. This is my opinion on when will Diablo 4 come out. Let me know what do you think about this release date in the comments below.
